PlayStationary One Vol. 1 - Jade Cacoon
Polish the disk and blow some air on the lens, its time for PLAYSTATIONARY ONE VOL. 1 - JADE CACOON! This album, freshly remastered boat and now streaming across all streaming platforms, is a tribute to our lasting love for video game music. “PlayStationary One Vol. 1 - Jade Calibur” is a statement, a time machine, capable of respawning.
Original Recording
Born from a mix of nostalgia and a penchant for experimentation, PlayStationary is playground. The selection of samples, from the mystical "Jade Cocoon" to the epic narrations in "Soul Calibur IV" and the rhythmically challenging beats of that "Batman" game on Sega Genesis that probably caused more controller casualties than we care to admit, set the tone.
Instead of the digital audio workstation (DAW) route, most would consider a standard practice, we took a detour. Samples were blended directly into the Kasossilator, with FX and melodies added live, manually. Imagine painting with sound, but you’re blindfolded, and your canvas is moving. In hindsight, we admit this method was a bit over the top, and future endeavors adopted more “sensible” techniques.
TRACKLIST
Originally dropped in the cold of February 2019, “PlayStationary One Vol. 1” was a bold step into the mix for Tape Lab. The remaster isn’t just about polishing the sound; it’s about refining a vision.
Jade Calibur - "A Hero Desires a Sword; and a Sword Desires Truth" - The lead track blends the ethereal qualities of Jade Cocoon with the gravitas of Soul Calibur IV. Fun fact, I used to use this voice as my ringtone (nobody liked that).
GeniSNES - If Jade Calibur is the journey, "GeniSNES" is the destination. It’s a nod to the era of the SNES but through the lens of someone who survived the Sega Genesis’ brutal game library. This track feels like a victory lap after beating that Batman game without throwing your controller across the room.
Show Ur Strength - You made it this far, proving your strength and fortitude. Those clear crisp drum fills, the booming voice. This is Tape Country.
Born from an unwavering willingness to experiment, the remastered version serves as a polished reflection of their early work but also as a testament to their growth as artists and their dedication to their craft.
Are there more in the series? You guessed it! PlayStationary One Vol. 2 - ChronoCross Fit is hot on the heels and coming soon!
