A Batman beat, slingin those batarangs
Don’t arrive too early for the end, or else you’ll miss the sinister secret origins, born in the sweaty seething, sacrificial mass worshiping at the alter of entranced dance. GothM has changed in the way it always has, always getting worse somehow casually, as if by the way of gravity. drifting down, forever buoyed by a last breath of desperation.
That is to say—aspirational.
Triumphantly incoherent, can’t put your finger on it (is it there?) you can’t win everybody over but anyways
Funky and weird, but gets to the groove. JVA with the guitar sounds great
Beast Inspired by Geinoh Yamashirogumi.
Part of the preLux album. Created mostly by 2yng2smpl with big help editing from CD+. This esoteric beat is a mega-chopped-up sample of Kaosillator piano samples recorded on Tape and then heavily spliced. A slight departure from what Tape Lab is usually known for, but still has that signature vintage warmth!
If you listen VERY closely, you’ll hear the audio from a childhood favorite tape Star Wars: Dark Lords of the Sith.
Album art is Serge from ChronoCross trying to get the #FrozenFlame, but to no avail. Love the blue flames with the vaporflame text above.
That falcon cry is so intensly epic. SPNF!N!TY was all over the bass and CD+ crushed the composition
Almost a generic beat, the weird loops and quantized beats make this one more interesting. Thats the “wonk,” so to speak. This was made entirely on Ableton without external instruments. The cover is Poliwirl from Pokemon, but its Tape Lab. Proly not anyone’s fave, but there is something buried in the melody that my come back in another beat.
Great opener for “Data Cursor” by 2yng2smpl. Comes in with more lead in than usual and then pops off for one solid Dubstep drop! Which is harder to do than one would think. The title references that the album is going to start, to initialize, but since its Tape Lab, we had to add a little flair to it. 2yng2smpl states this maybe his favorite ableton beat.
A Baoa Qu is a space fortress featured in Mobile Suit Gundam. It was Principality of Zeon's last defense line in the One Year War. ||A Baoa Qu was the Principality of Zeon's largest and most powerful asteroid base. A Baoa Qu was a fusion of two asteroids into one, forming an "umbrella"-like shape; its size is about 33.75km tall and 22.5km in diameter. A Baoa Qu was built in the opposite L2 point orbit, placing it directly opposite from the Zeon Homeland in Side 3. A Baoa Qu provided rear defense, while the Zeon's Solomon space fortress served as a frontline base. || The space fortress served as the Zeon Military Force's general headquarters for their space fleet. It also was used as a mobile weapons production factory. It was the scene of the Titanic Battle of A Baoa Qu, one of the greatest battles of the One Year War. Unlike the earlier battle of Solomon, it was a hard-fought victory for the Federation. After the One Year War, A Baoa Qu was kept by the Republic of Zeon following the signing of the Treaty of Granada. Later, in June U.C. 0087, the Republic of Zeon would hand it over to the Earth Federation's Titans special force, who would rename it the Gate of Zedan. The space fortress was completely destroyed in U.C. 0088 when the mobile asteroid base Axis rammed and broke the Gate of Zedan into two.
"You bet I cut the taxes at the top. That encourages entrepreneurship. What we Republicans should stand for is growth in the economy. We ought to make the pie higher."
Shoutout to #41, not the original, but the remix - George W. Bush! Still crazy to think he said these eternal lines. ALSO, the album art - WOW! That’s a photo of an All-American PIE floating HIGH up in the air, with a super-imposed self-portrait that GWB created! Just lovely.
Despite middling reviews from most major publications, 2yng2smpl’s Petty King Mixtape remains a fan favorite. Featuring 60 magnificent minutes of nonstop beats (of questionable quality), All original, remixed LIVE on Cassette Tape. Forreal tho, there are some hidden gems in here that you’ll want to explore on a road trip someday.

This one is a legendary Tape Lab night. Tape Lab has always been about collaboration and having fun and making music together that sounds fun. Listen to this one and you can tell it is 100% from the heart. NOT TO MENTION this is the first appearance of N@T*, who totally crushed the intro.
CD+ is unstoppable on the keys throughout. Nobody plays piano like CD+, love it. SPNF!N!TY (wow, what a fun handle to type!) added that strange audio by reading Moby Dick and others. Check out how the Kaosillator drums are warped when the BPM is slowed!

Shamless relux of the original song by the super group Midnite Star Band. 2yng2smpl made this on a cellphone DJ app and then spliced the samples and edited later on computer.
FOR REAL MEMPHIS FANS ONLY. Mixed some demonic trap music, Korean lounge music + Tommy Wright III.
Lovely Patrick Stewart samples to start then a nice jam. The video is a collection of CGI from old JRPGS

Oxymoronically ironic, macroMINI underlines the emotional size of contrasting elements. One of the few narratives among the TapeLibrary, the journey of an individual delves into their dreams. To decode a dream is to understand the feeling the dream evoked. || Night Dreamer takes the perspective of a child who is able to perceive more than their adult counterparts expect. A child's comprehension should never be understated. While in a dream state, the human mind (especially one of a child) is closer to a true universal understanding than when obstructed by external conscious forces. This link dissolves into adulthood, while the child's self projection of it's adult self in a dream state is the most powerful a human can spiritually be. || Tape Noir is the fantasy projection of our protagonist dreamer. As a private detective, the dreamer is trying to solve the illusion of unconsciousness while at the same time lamenting the regretful decisions that mean so much to a child. The dreamer looks to a happy couple feeling the true regret of the loner's path. One who is doomed to walk alone. ||RADE follows the dreamer into a forced conflict designed by the subconscious to give them the satisfaction of companionship, while being able to continue to the sequel. This abrupt ending of the narrative is critically judged by a benevolent group of reptilian dream-goers. They are as unsure of the quality as we are, and decide to dance to celebrate the dream. || What I Really Thought morphs the dream into a usual state of nonsensical absurdity. The dreamer has possibly mowed a lawn, or recently had to vacuum the carpet. It is now up to the dreamer to process the monotony of the daily grind: chores. || Trainwrecked is the leftovers of the dreamer's week. The scattered pieces the the week are stitched together to create a broken train of sentience. Moving along a crooked track, the train chugs along until the morning.

Never thought I’d live to see the day that Bill O’Rielly has some moderate opinions to share… so it goes. Spanning divides of time and culture, this album considers the unity that binds of us to a truth of the celebration of art.Visual footage from Henry Martin and Steve Shaw's documentary "Grove Carnival" (1981)

THe lyrics in this one come from a Star Wars tape that 2yng2smpl had as a kid. It's about learning how to read. Definitely stick it out till the end for the final build-up.
It's crazy to think that this is the 53 Tape Lab release! Tre prolifique!
By Grabthars Hammer, what a savings. You said it, Alan. It can be hard to determine the definition of science. Religions are usually based on astronomy, or geology. Does that mean science gave birth to religion? Special effects are so easily explained as science while Michael Jordan playing basketball is clearly magic. Considering all of these components leads to one conclusion: the only constant in science is the friction it creates.
Phaser Set To Fun is a social commentary on how science enhances the fun of living. Similar to our lives, the stunning science fiction adventures of Star Trek can be incomplete without a Galaxy Quest to provide a balanced diet of futurism. As we evolve into our next human form, it is important to keep all aspects of our psyche, including our humor. |King of Pluto is a response to the inevitable expansion within our solar system. Not only will us humans require food in the vast interplanetary spans, we will require mental and emotional sustenance.

[0:00] Phaser Set to Fun
[1:10] King of Pluto
From the start, a powerfully simple beat announces its eponymous title - RINGO BEAT BIG TIME. This was a fun jam session back in Graham, NC, early in the time of the Tape, back in the Twisted Tea days. This first jam has a calm, 90’s instructional video.
Sliding into a dance beat. You can almost feel the laughter. Like lots of our older music, we just let it ride. Record everything and then trim it down. Nice flow to the tracks - a great example of that classic Tape Lab sound!

RIP to The Triangle Scheme. You can hear the collaboration here in this first team-up with Tape Lab. Where everything is flat and there are no roads. Its the rug under the rug, where the flat heads roll.
First of the on-going “Secrete Flatness” series. Basically, we used to just replace these files with new songs - so you’d never know if it was an old favorite, or something weird and new… Not a great plan or system, so now the songs are static. This was the first Ableton beat that 2yng2smpl created, using an FX chain Beat Repeat to make that weird intro part.
A final synthesis for 2 or 3 years in the making, thisisdistress.wav is absolutely distressful! Imagine trying to turn left on a busy road or waiting to be electrocuted. Long and intended to produce anxiety (but the good kind). Very much typical for most of the music 2yng2smpl made prior to Tape Lab (i.e., its gotten better). For the curious - YES - that is J. Oppenheimer whispering “Most People Were Silent.”
Tracklist [32:00]
The first of the Playstationary Series, a standard-bearer for the frenetic, didn’t-see-that-coming ethos at the heart of Tape Lab. Samples included are the ICONIC Soul Calibur IV narrator and a great sample from Jade Cacoon - hence the name! SAMPLES FROM: Jade Cacoon x Soul Calibur 4 Narrator x Adventures of Batman & Robin
Now THAT is some hyper-cerebrial album naming! So many puns so much to think about. Y R U B? Tangled wires, cables and bad quality air anyway that influence the limbs and finger tips.
Day 2 from the inaugural Tape Lab setup. Even before we had a name. Rushing back from work, both 2yng2smpl & CD+ were ready to get busy, to see if lightning would strike twice. HINT: It does! Some great moments in this Tape. Crazy Story: after recording everything on Tape to ensure that we wouldn’t lose anything due to corrupted data, etc —The TAPE BROKE. Like, literally the magnetic part of the cassette snapped. Before we could even listen back to the track. TRAGIC!
Pronounced (Flat End Demo) The Original. The First. If you’re going to listen to Tape Lab - start here.
A common refrain in Tape Lab Lore - Delete it all again - start over and rebuild. But this beat is spaced out and speaks to an undercurrent of DON’T DELETE IT. I love this video. Shoutout 11foot8.com for the great content. One of the earliest recordings of any TapeLab group, this recording of reLux was captured live, and improvised at a house party in 2019. The video footage is a nod to the timeless documentation that is Jürgen Henn – 11foot8.com. There is a bridge in Durham, NC that is 11-foot-8 inches tall. There is a bridge between us, but the bridge is a wall above. One thinks the canopy traffic, often if fondly at all. Slowly, too trucks converge, where the ceiling meets the road. Takes a little off the top. The intersection is a point in time—forward and backward—the bridge above, the wall below. Flowing forms gleaned from the railing roof. Insteadfast, past and presenting an impenetrable membrane before the shearing cleaves the left-behind-debris. This bridge is a troll demanding shrapnel payment for passage. Each truck a temptress, Iccarus of the road, us above to see as Daedelus does, awaiting like a watch. The viewer's eye, like the film, become transficted fathers of sons soon to set. The bridge burns bright, melts the machines.Calamity of collisions slowly collapse into itself, our predicted fate known only from perfect perch, a futureviewer averse to act. Ironically, the iron beams above, belie a problem of the past. As we go, growing old in changed chains, the walls between us are but the ceilings, itself a floor for more to stand and stamp and sell. Construction is construction. Our dreams are trucksattelites sprayed to the curb. Canned confines create and define? Can our dreams be but 11-foot-8?
The Flakes EP was improlived live on February 5th and 6th, 2019 in Efland, NC.Check out those car noises!

The first official release for Tape Lab, recorded and mixed by 2yng2smpl on Cassette Tape. Additional FX layers have been added and maybe don’t help. Definitely a passion project, the first time that we layered text-to-speech software to generate those robo voices. The words are all from the FLATENDEMO era. A long listen, but worth it.
Whose gonna save the data? On the disc that is my head, spinning shapes the weight off, disregarding any depth. Compacted level flatness that is all contact is - yes, this flatness is contracted. Protracted angels flutter flat wings, too obtuse for use.
